Our research focuses on the control of negative feedback in the hypothalamic pituitary adrenal axis and the role of steroid hormones in modulation of this feedback in both humans and experimental animals. Current studies are examining the role of gonadal steroids, estrogen and progesterone and their impact upon negative feedback regulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis in female humans and rats. This work will be extended to the study of interactions between the HPA and hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axes in depressed women.
