My research and clinical interest focus on stress and stress related disorders. In our Trauma, Stress and Anxiety Research Group, and Psychiatry Affective Neuroscience laboratory we are conducting neuroimaging, neuroendocrine and pharmacological studies in both healthy controls and clinical population. In our wet bench laboratory we are engaged in biochemical and molecular biological studies and also are developing animal modes for these conditions. Co-regulation, and dysregulation of stress response systems (HPA, catecholaminergic, and peripheral autonomic) comprise our main research directions in humans. In animal research, in addition to developing models for post-traumatic stress, we continue to explore the effects of stress and stress hormones on neuropeptide receptor, receptor mRNA regulation, and on animal behaviors.

In our in vivo neuroimaging work, we explore functional neuroanatomy of stress, emotions, and cognitive -emotional interaction as well as effects of emotions on decision making. We are developing integrated approaches that combine psychological, neuroimaging and neuroendocrinological aprroaches and apply them to psychiatric patients in attempt to better understand the development of psychiatric psychopatology.
