UM's very own Samurai Blue took to the field agaist other cultural clubs on campus in a tournament delayed by rain and storms. We weren't the champions but played hard and had fun!

The 4th annual MJSA Conference was held at the Ohio State University. Only two members from UM attended, but both had a great time and made connections with members of other midwestern JSA's.

Donations for Kumamoto Earthquake Relief (4/22 and 4/23)
The Japanese Student Association collected donations to sent to the Japanese Red Cross to benefit Kumamoto earthquake relief funds.
On April 14th and 15th two earthquakes of magnitude 6.5 and 7.3 hit Kumamoto, Japan. There are currently 59 reported deaths, 3,000 injuries, and 92,000 people are forced to evacuate the area.

TWSA x JSA Shaved Ice (4/9)
TWSA (Taiwanese Student Association) and JSA present to you our last collaboration of the school year: SHAVED ICE!!!
Kakigori (カキ氷) can be translated into shaved ice, and is a tradition icy dessert from both Japan and Taiwan.

Undokai (3/26)
UofM hosted annual Undokai among MSU, WMU, OSU, and us.
Undokai is a traditional Sports day in which teams competes through variety of tasks, including obstacles race, and relay.

Japan Culture Festival (3/13)
The Japan Student Association hosted the 23rd annual Japan Culture Festival!
It is our biggest event of the year. We provided variety of Japanese food, a bazaar, dance performances by both UM students and a children's chorus group, and traditional Japanese activities.

Midwestern Japan Student Association Conference (2/27)
First annual conference for Midewestern Japan Student Association
MJSA's first ever conference. Japan students associations from midwest, including U of M, Purdue University, University of Toledo, and many others gathered to discuss future work as MJSA.

Many people came to make their own bento. Each one of them is very creative and delicious.

JSA participated in Celebrasia and cooked Yakisoba, Japanese famous noodle.
The goal for Celebrasia is to showcase the incredible diversity and richness of Asian culture, primarily through the combined efforts of many organizations such as JSA, CSA, KSA and 10+ others!

Bake Sale Fundraiser (11/4)
JSA baked and sold Japanese sweets at Mason Hall.
We made Mochi with coconut milk, green tea chocolate cookies, and melon-tastes cookies.

Halloween Movie Night (10/23)
JSA hosted movie night before Halloween and played Japanese horror movie, Kuroneko.
Kuroneko is a ghost story based on a folk tale of feudal Japan. It was released in 1971 in US. More information in HERE

Global Touch hosted career seminar and Kawasaki Heavy Industry info session
Global Touch taught student how to get jobs in Japan and strategy for bein success at Boston Career Fair. They also presented information about Kawasaki Heavy Industry, one of the largest engineering company in Japan.

Japan clubs from U of M, MSU, EMU, and WMU gathered and had fun time at Undokai, which is Japanese sports days. Students competed in team relay, obstacle race, and beach flags.

JSA hosted our biggest event of the year! We had a huge turn out, ended up selling all our food that was meant for 300 people. I'm glad we spent 10 hours cooking XD
