These sources are a good introduction into the primary literature in several broad areas. Use them, and the sources cited in them, to find your way through that literature. They are mainly available in the Science Library.

Aquacultural Engineering—deals with modeling and system design. Not in library.

Bamidgeh—Israeli journal of aquaculture, with much on arid systems. Not in library.

Ecology—many papers on ecology of fishes. Science Library. Q901.A3 .J86

Environmental Biology of Fishes—mixed quality and subjects. Science Library. QL614 .E58

Journal of the World Aquaculture Society—another good journal, international in scope. Science Library. SH138.W921

Progressive Fish Culturist—deals mainly with sport fish and U.S. problems. Science Library. SH11 F5249

Transactions of the American Fisheries Society—fisheries related. Science Library. SH1 .A5

Current References in Fish Research—Ed. Victor Cvancara. Fish Division Library QL614.C97. A useful source of fish literature.

UM Libraries Catalogue (MCAT)

Wilson Indexes to Journal Articles (indexes, wils). These articles are often from secondary, rather than primary literature. Secondary sources include magazines such as Discovery and Scientific American.

Current Contents (indexes, current contents). Search by topic or by journal; extremely useful as abstracts are usually included.

Biological Abstracts (BIOL, 1990 to present). Is available as on MIRLYN. It is listed on page 2 of Indexes, or may be chosen from the MIRLYN opening screen simply by typing BIOL.

Biological Abstracts and Science Citation Index--available at Science Library in paper form and on CD-ROM. Easy to search and include abstracts of articles rather than just titles.
