1998 MIC Banquet

The MIC Banquet will be held Friday evening, November 13,
from 6:00 - 10:00 PM in Salons A & B of the Harbour Ballroom.

"Quantum Computation"  Seth Lloyd's first graduate degree was in Math, his
second in Philosophy, and his third in Physics.  He is now an Associate Professor
of Mechanical Engineering at MIT.  He regards this as progress in
the right direction.  He is a member of the New England Complex
Systems Institute and an Adjunct Professor at the Santa Fe Institute.
Professor Lloyd is an authority on designing, building, and operating
quantum computers.  As the components of computers  become smaller
and smaller, they approach the realm in which their behavior is no
longer classical but quantum mechanical.  As Neils Bohr noted,
quantum mechanics is intrinsically strange.  Quantum weirdness
poses unique challenges and opportunities for information
processing.  This talk discusses what quantum computers are,
how you can build them, and what you can do with them.

Banquet tickets my be purchased when you register
and will also be available at the meeting.
