to U-M?
Many students choose to attend Washtenaw Community College for two years before transferring to the University of Michigan to complete their degree. If you're one of those students, this program will provide you with support services to make your transition as easy as possible.
At first, making the move to U-M seems difficult...
You have to research academic programs, find a knowledgeable counselor, become familiar with U-M collegiate life, apply for admission, find financial aid, locate affordable housing, and determine how your WCC credits will count towards a U-M Bachelor's degree.
...but, M-POD can make continuing your education at U-M easier than you think!
What does M-POD offer?
- Group meetings and seminars
- Assurance that your WCC credits will transfer toward U-M freshman/sophomore requirements
- One-on-one counseling
- A mentorship program
- Orientation to U-M/WCC Resources
Here's how it works:
The M-POD program was developed jointly by Washtenaw Community College and the University of Michigan, with the purpose of helping academically and/or economically disadvantaged students attain their educational goals. Under the terms of the program, students who attend WCC for two years, and who meet specific requirements, will be considered for admission to one of eleven participating schools and colleges at the University of Michigan.
Many WCC students who thought that the University of Michigan was "out of reach" have made a successful transfer and graduated!

For example, Raleigh Woods, transferred from WCC to U-M and graduated with a B.A. degree in Psychology. Currently, Raleigh is working as a substitute teacher with the Ann Arbor Public Schools and is attending graduate school. Mercedes Santos transferred from WCC to U-M and graduated from U-M with a B.A. degree in Communications. Mercedes also intends to pursue graduate school.
