UMS Teacher Workshop: Native American Immersion

This year Noongwa e-Anishinaabemjig participated in the University of Michigan Musical Society's Native American Immersion workshop. On Sunday, April 17th, over fifty Washtenaw County teachers and librarians spent a day learning about Native American culture and making native-style hand drums. Topics included history and repatriation issues with Dr. Michael Witgen and Michael Zimmerman, Jr., Language and culture from Howard Kimewon and Margaret Noodin and then creating Anishinaabe songs with Margaret and Stacie Sheldon.

Here is the simple Welcome Song that was written by teachers using a Native American flute and new Anishinaabe vocabulary.
