Recently, Kenn Pitawanakwat, Ojibwe Language Instructor at Northern Michigan University braved the warmth and visited his old friend Howard Kimewon, Ojibwe Language Instructor at the University of Michigan. Kenn spoke to several Ojibwe language classes at the U of M, visited Haisley Elementary School with Margaret and Howard, shared with the Noongwa e-Anishinaabemjig community language group and even attended the Ann Arbor Dance for Mother Earth Pow Wow.

Howard, Margaret Noori with her daughters, Shannon and Fionna, then visited Kenn in Marquette to present at the First Annual Indigenous Earth Day Summit which was held April 22 & 23. There they were joined by old friends Jim Northrup and Bucko Teeple. They also met some new friends from Australia who could play the digeridoo and spoke about language revitalization and land management.

The presentation was entitled, "G'gaa Miigwetchwiiaanaa ji-Debenjiged" (Giving Thanks to the Creator). You can download a PDF of the presentation handout from the Resources area of this page.
