Zhaabwiitoodaa Anishinaabemowin (Let's save the language)

Matt Stehney did this as his senior project in Ojibwe. It is a reflection on what learning the language meant to him.

1. Pii gaa bi dagooshinyaanh gaawiin gikendaasiin ge gii kinomaagooyaamba.
When did here arrived I didn't know what I should be taught.
When I arrived here I didn't know what I should study.

2. Maampiich dash igo n'gii nsostaan ge daapinaamaamba.
Eventually then really I did understood what I should take.
Eventually I understood what classes to take.

3. Zhaazhaagwa Anishinaabeg gaa bi ezhi bimaadziwaad.
Long ago Anishinaabeg people did here the way to live them.
Long ago the Anishinaabe people knew the way to live.

4. Biinish ge niin gikendamaamba maanda Anishinaabemowin
Until what I should know this Anishinaabe language

miinwaa Anishinabeg genwaa ezhi bimaadziwaad.
and Anishinaabe people they the way to live them.
When I know the Anishinaabe language, then I will understand the way they once lived.

5. Nanagodinong ge Anishinaabe gego miinin
Sometimes an Anishinaabe person something he/she given it

7. Genwaa ga zhitoonaa gondag waa bi iyaajig shkwaang ge ni objikaazwaad

this Anishinaabe language to save it them to speak Anishinaabe them.
We will make things so they will be able to use them to learn and save the language at the same time.
