Wodob (Rudolph)

Sung by Margaret Noodin. Translated by Helen Roy's class.

Kikenmaa na Dasher miinwaa Dancer miinwaa Prancer miinwaa Vixen,

(You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen,)

Comet miinwaa Cupid miinwaa Donder miinwaa Blitzen.

(Comet and Cupid and Donner and Blitzen.)

Gdo mkwenmaa dash, gewii e-kchishpendaagozid waawashkeshiinhs...?

(But do you recall the most famous reindeer of all?)

Wodob e-mskojaanhenswid waawaashkeshiinhs

(Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer)

Gii kchi-wawaaskonenijaanhsim

(Had a very shiny nose)

Miinwaa giishpin ge gii waabandaman

(And if you ever saw it)

Ge gii gdaakid "waawaaskonemagad"

(You would even say it "glows").

Kina dash gwa waawaashkeshag

(All of the other reindeer)

Gii baabaapiwak ko nowanj zhinikanaawaad

(Used to laugh and call him names)

Kaa wiika gii-bigidinaasiwaan Wodob-ishan

(They never let poor Rudolph)

Wii damnanid waawaashkeshidamnawinan

(Join in any reindeer games)

Miidash ngoding naakshek giikchi aawang

(Then one foggy Christmas Eve)

Santa gii bi kidaa

(Santa came to say)

"Wodob e-kchimskojaanhenswid,

("Rudolph with your nose so bright)

gdaa babaa-nigaandabiichige naa gwa nongwa?"

(Won't you guide my sleigh tonight?")

Miidash kina gwa waawaashkeshag gii zaagii'aawaad

(Then all the reindeer loved him)

epichii gii-minonanoondaagoziwaad,

(And they shouted out with glee,)

"Wodob e-mskojaanhenswid waawaashkeshiinhs

("Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer)

pane ka ni makwenmigo"

(You'll go down in history!")
