Mimi Belton
Mimi is a mixed blood American Indian (Shawano and Western Tsalagi), also with some West Indian and European ancestry. She wanted to come on the trip because of an interest in the events of the "tumultuous sixties" and how they shaped her life today. Email Mimi at beltonm@umich.edu.

Teresa Buckwalter
Coming soon. Email Teresa at tbuckwal@umich.edu.

Debra Gittler
Coming soon. In the meantime, email Debra at dgittler@umich.edu.

Joseph Gonzalez
Joseph Gonzalez, the lead instructor for the class, is a doctoral candidate in history at the University of Michigan and a Resident Fellow in the Lloyd Hall Scholars Program. When not devising impossibly long trips by mini-van, he is at work on a dissertation on the United States and Cuba. You may email him at joegon@umich.edu.

Hilary Greer
Coming soon. In the meantime, email Hilary at hgreer@umich.edu

Juliana Kua
Juliana Kua, comes to us from Singapore.
Which is in Southeast Asia.
Only been in the US for 6 months.
That’s not long.
So still many things to learn.
But this trip helped a lot.
Love the weather here.
Cos the coldest weather in tropical Singapore is 85 Fahrenheit.
Singapore is also different as it is a lot less open in terms of free speech.
But I like it. So there.
And I went on this trip because I wanted to learn.
And I got a lot more than I thought I would.
For that I am eternally grateful.
You can email Juliana at julianak@umich.edu.

Alyssa Picard
Alyssa graduated from Muhlenberg College in 1995, and currently studies and teaches US medical history at the University of Michigan. She has personally driven more than 17,000 miles on America's Eisenhower Interstate Highway system since the fall of 1998, most of it in a ten-year-old Honda that now has 148,000 miles on its original clutch. Donations for its replacement gratefully received at picarda@umich.edu.

Natalie Rothman
Coming soon. In the meantime, email Natalie at nrothman@umich.edu.

Alberto Sanchez-Aparicio
Alberto is an 18 years old freshman at the University of Michigan in the Architecture program. He came from Lincoln NE, but is originally from Oaxaca Mexico. He came on this trip because he likes history, and wanted to see exactly where some of the most important events in recent American history took place. You can reach him via email at albertos@umich.edu.

Zachary Schulman
"Like most of the people on this jaunt down south, I'm a first-year student at U of M. Unlike everyone else, I'm in the Residential College. I lived in Boston for a big chunk of my life, but more recently I hail from Rye, New York. I don't have a major, I don't have a minor, to tell you the truth, I don't have any real direction in my life. Okay, big deal -- lets talk about something people care about. I decided to go on this trip because I have a lot of faith in learning by doing, or hands on learning or experimental learning, or whatever you want to call it. To me reading a textbook about a slice of time pales in comparison to meeting with people who the book is written about, and visiting the museums dealing with their history. This trip allowed me to do that; be a part of an experiment in experimental learning. Personally, I am a student labor activist (specifically, anti-sweatshop) who usually labels himself a democratic socialist. I am very involved with the campus group SOLE (Students Organizing for Labor and Economic Equality). I feel that there is not one single inheritor to the Civil Rights Movement, but rather many somewhat as of yet, unconnected, grassroots movements working towards justice on numerous fronts (economic equality, environmental justice, LGBT rights, racial equality -- just to name a few) that are working in the spirit of the Movement this country saw in the 1950s and 60s." You can reach Zack by email at zschulma@umich.edu.

Jeb Singer
Jeb Singer is a freshman at the University of Michigan hailing from Pelham, NY. He attended Northfield Mount Hermon School in Northfield, MA. While there he got out of the classroom and devoted himself to wrestling, baseball, environmental rights, peer education and other endeavors. Going back to the super-unknown is a passion of his and what makes him a civil man. Jeb can be reached at jlsinger@umich.edu.

Michael Simon
Michael Simon is a first-year student at the University of Michigan. His parents instilled values of equality and the importance of Civil Rights from a young age. His Jewish heritage also plays a large part in his commitment to activism and leadership, and his interest is largely spurred on by the important role that the Reform Jewish movement, of which he is a member, played in securing Civil Rights for African-Americans and others. Email Michael at mbsimon@umich.edu.

Patricia Welsh
Coming soon. In the meantime, you can email Patricia at pwelsh@umich.edu.

Jordan Zylstra
Coming soon. In the meantime, you can email Jordan at jzylstra@umich.edu.
