On Sunday, February 25th, twenty-three University of Michigan students left Ann Arbor to search once more for America's Civil Right's Movement. We returned one week later, weary but wiser for the journey.

We drove three thousand miles. We visited twelve states, from Washington, DC, through Alabama, and Mississippi, to Memphis and back home. We endured fast food, uncomfortable accommodations, and two speeding tickets. Along the way, we discovered a Movement that remains alive today, in the stories of John Lewis and Julian Bond, and in the work of activists such as Jaribu Hill of Greenville, Mississippi, and the Southern Poverty Law Center.

This website is a record of our journey. Click on any day and read journal entries from students or teachers. Feel free to email us your reactions. We would enjoy hearing from you.

Whether you email us or not, mark your calendars for spring break 2002; "Get on the Bus 2002" will be offered next year.
