Henry I. Mosberg, PhD, associate dean for research and professor of medicinal chemistry; and James G. Stevenson, PharmD, associate dean and director of pharmacy services, University of Michigan Health System; bestow pharmacy robes on Christina Lei Aquino, PharmD’07. Aquino was one of 59 students to receive a PharmD from U-M this year.

“What an exceptional time to be graduating from this outstanding college of pharmacy. Our impact on patient care has never been greater, our influence never more persuasive, and our ability to have a marked effect on the health and safety of our patients never more fulfilling. However, let me also caution you of the necessity of ´suspending disbelief.’ A patient will respond or a drug will react or interact in a manner very different from what you have been taught and previously experienced. Your first reaction is to disbelieve what you are observing since it is so different from the norm. But I remind you to suspend disbelief, since it is often then that you can make a significant advance in patient safety by carefully documenting your observation and re-evaluating what you have observed.”

“I want to thank all of our friends and family for coming to our graduation today. We appreciate all the support that you’ve given us over the years. During difficult times, there has always been someone there to pick us up. Maybe it was a call home, seeing one of our classmates stuck in the same library, rocking out to “Eye of the Tiger” with your roommate to get fired up before a test and/or getting to hang out with the love of your life. Someone was always there .... With our class, that happened a lot. And that made us close. In the end, we all still called each other friends.”
