History of PIRGIM

PIRGIM was founded by students at U of M in 1973. It was based on the idea that students can make a huge difference for society when we pool our resources together. Our first huge victory was getting the Bottle Bill passed, which lets Michigan residents receive deposit of 10 cents for carbonated beverage bottles and cans. Since then, PIRGIM has become a citizen-funded group that tackles statewide issues. We're working to bring back the student-funded organization we had in the 70s that made a lasting impact for the public, environment, but most importantly the former students of the University of Michigan.
