Concerned by the United States' reluctance to sign an international treaty addressing global warming (climate change), Students for PIRGIM urged U of M to take matters into its own hands. PIRGIM raised awareness on campus about alternative energy sources and fuel-efficient technologies. Through numerous days of action on the Diag and making guest appearances in classes, we collected more than 3,000 student signatures calling for the University to set a goal of reducing our own impact on global warming. Our efforts culminated in a meeting with then interim-President Joseph B. White. After an agreement to create an environmental task force, the Environmental Issues Commission of the Michigan Student Assembly is currently working with U of M to address this issue.
