I am the GSI for Section 002 and Section 007.
Besides being a GSI for Psychology 360, I like to go hiking and be outside. I love Northern California (I was an undergrad at Stanford) and I miss the mountains. I worked in Silicon Valley before coming to graduate school, and I love keeping up on the latest gossip about high-tech companies.

Brush strokes irresolute, words you did not mean.
You can do anything you want to do. What is rare
Is the actual wanting to do a specific thing.
-Annie Dillard, Mornings Like This
Actually wanting to do a specific thing
I actually want to make this discussion section a great experience for you! That involves setting a few expectations up front: topics covered in section will correspond with topics in lecture, and will expand upon the ideas raised in the lecture and readings. We will do things in the section to make the lectures more real in your experience, to clarify the ideas, and to relate them to other ideas that you have encountered.
Our Goals:
- To understand, analyze, and discuss ideas presented in lecture and reading
- To relate ideas from lecture to outside topics
- To experience first-hand some ideas from the course
Our Intellectual Standards:
- We think through the ideas presented to us, whether we agree or disagree
- Our ideas are supported by evidence, which we clearly state
- Our evidence is clearly evaluated by ourselves and our peers
- We further everyones knowledge by tackling tough questions honestly
Our Discussion Standards:
- We establish a community of ideas, where respect is naturally given
- Listening is the first step in discussing. No interrupting or side conversations, please.
- Everyone in the room communicates a viewpoint that contributes to the discussion.
- People in the room hold a variety of opinions and beliefs that are different than yours. You job is to help each other express them. We learn from one another.

Hints to use the discussion section to your fullest benefit
There are many ways to make discussion sections helpful and fun. This may be one of the few times in your life that you are challenged to think deeply about an issue and you also have the benefit of 30 other people thinking about it with you. I encourage you to take advantage of that opportunity. Use this discussion section to ask questions of clarification, to evaluate the evidence given for the arguments, and to advance your own understanding of the material. Most discussion sections will involve activities that require your active participation. The more you can get into the activities and use them to learn, the better the course will be for you.
You have the responsibility to prepare for section by doing the readings for class and attending the lectures. Write down your questions as you read, and bring them to section or come to office hours, or send email to the course list. If youre having trouble with a reading, call or email me. The more clearly you understand the readings, the better youll do in the class.
Your final responsibility is to give the GSI active feedback about the class. If there is something that isnt working, tell me. There will be chances during each class to discuss what goes well and what doesnt. You can also send me email, come to office hours, or leave a note in my mailbox.
My responsibility as your GSI is to do whatever I can to help you understand the material and do well in the class. That means I will be prepared for good sections, give you adequate feedback, hold regular office hours, make special appointments to meet with you, answer questions promptly, and respond to all email within a reasonable time (48 hours max). Remember, its my job to help, so dont be intimidated to seek me out.
