Dr. Pee is interested in 8th-14th centuries China, (Tang, Song, and Yuan dynasties), text and writing, cities and urban space, representations of imperioal power, ritual, archaelogy. His most recent publication was, “Purchase on Power: Imperial Space and Commercial Space in Song-Dynasty Kaifeng, 960-1127," in the Journal of the Economic and Social History of the Orient in 2009.

Dr. Pee got his PhD in East Asian Languages and Cultures from Columbia University in 1997 and his MA in Chinese Languages and Cultures from Leiden University in 1991.
