NOTE: Coverage does not extend to personal property of employees, visitors or students.

Property Damage

Coverage for damage sustained to most University-owned property due to sudden and accidental occurrences is available. Replacement cost or actual cash value of equipment will be reimbursed upon receipt of a properly submitted claim. Some exclusions do apply.

Fine Arts coverage is provided under a separate policy.

Theft

Reimbursement for theft losses is available for most University-owned property. Replacement cost or actual cash value of equipment will be reimbursed upon receipt of a properly submitted claim. Some exclusions and deductibles do apply.

Missing property discovered through general inventory is not covered.

Time Element (Business Interruption)

This coverage reimburses units for lost revenues resulting from covered losses.

Rents

This coverage reimburses units for fair rental value and expected income during a period of restoration from a covered loss. Coverage is not automatic and must be pre-arranged.

Boiler

Covers boiler and related machinery for direct damage or physical loss following a specific event. Covered occurrences include, but are not limited to, explosion, bursting, bulging and freezing.

Transit

Property owned by the University is insured in transit to certain limits. Some exclusions and special conditions do apply. While coverage exists for products shipped FOB Shipping Point, FOB Destination is preferred.

Service Interruption

Covers loss or damage when physical loss or damage results from the interruption of incoming services. A waiting period applies.

EDP Equipment or Media

Coverage extends to physical loss or damage resulting from a failure of EDP Equipment or Media to correctly recognize, interpret, calculate, compare, etc. Some restrictions apply.

How To Submit a Claim

All incidents involving property damage or theft must be reported to the Department of Public Safety, Hospital Security or Campus Safety Office (Dearborn and Flint).

A "Proof of Loss" form (requires Adobe Acrobat Reader plug-in) must be forwarded to Risk Management Services. Documentation substantiating the value of the property must be attached.

When working with hazardous materials or flammable chemicals read labels; be familiar with the hazards and receiving training on safe procedures and protective equipment.
