University of Michigan Risk Management

Public Liability

Commercial General Liability

Hospital General Liability

These policies will pay for all amounts that the University is legally obligated to pay due to negligence which results in personal injury and/or property damage to others.

Groups contracting to use University facilities must obtain their own insurance coverage.

NOTE: An investigation will be conducted by the Risk Management Services. No admissions of responsibility or commitment to pay for damages should be given.

Liquor Liability

Liquor liability coverage is provided for eight licensed University locations: The University Club, Michigan League, Michigan Union, Business School Executive Residence, Inglis House, Oxford Conference Center, Pierpont Commons and Flint Campus University Center.

The University also provides coverage at University-sponsored receptions where liquor is served (not sold).

A 24 Hour Liquor License must be arranged through the Office of the General Counsel for "cash bar" or similar receptions serving beer or wine. The Department of Public Safety must be notified of any reception where liquor will be served. Additional notification procedures apply to functions involving University Hospitals.

Contractual Liability

Provides for payment of damages the University is legally obligated to pay as a result of a fully-executed contract. All contracts must be pre-approved by either the Office of the General Counsel, Medical Center Attorneys' Office or the Director of Purchasing.

Product Liability

Provides coverage for damages the University is legally obligated to pay as a result of loss involving a product designed, manufactured, or distributed by the University. Exclusions do apply.

How To Submit a Claim

All incidents involving personal injury or property damage must be reported to the Department of Public Safety, Hospital Security Office or Campus Safety Office (Dearborn and Flint) immediately.

All incidents involving personal injury, potential injury, or property damage should be reported to Risk Management Services on an "Injury Report for Non-Employees" form (requires Adobe Acrobat Reader plug-in).

Be aware of dangerous conditions such as uneven or slippery walkways, insufficient lighting or broken equipment.

Report all hazards to the responsible department orcontact the Risk Management Department to advise of anarea in need of repairs.

During inclement weather, entrances to buildings often become slippery.

__________________

Consider placing rugs near doors to minimize the problem and contact the building manager if you notice slippery conditions.
