Summer Camp 2009:
Activities

REGISTRATION

Especially for Coxswains

Receive specific feedback on your coxing while you are in the boat, on skills including steering, running practice safely and efficiently, giving commands, and managing the boat and its rowers. Attend coxswain-specific meetings to discuss race strategy, rules of racing, and uses of electronics to enhance your role in the boat. Because we want to ensure that all coxswains get lots of water time, we limit the number of coxswains we accept to Michigan Rowing Summer Camp on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note that our coxswain spaces filled early in 2008, so be sure to register soon if you are interested.

This summer, be coached by nationally acclaimed collegiate coaches, row out of Michigan's Boathouse on Belleville Lake (site of the 2008 Big Ten Championships), use the Michigan Rowing Team's Indoor Training Facilities, meet with Michigan strength coaches, and receive video analysis and one-on-one evaluations of your rowing.

• Be coached on rowing techniques, including drive mechanics, catch preparation, blade-seat timing, and blade work.
• Learn about race strategy and pacing.
• Get details about the Wolverine Training Plan, consider a wider range of training expectations, and hear about physiological effects of training.
• Hear and ask about rowing in college and rowing on national rowing teams from coaches, student-athletes, alumni, and former national rowing team members and coaches.
This summer, join us in Ann Arbor for Michigan Rowing Camp 2009.
Sunday, July 26
Monday -- Tuesday -- Wednesday, July 27-29
Thursday, July 30

All campers check in between 3:00 and 5:00 pm.

Welcomes, introductions, and erg session at 7:00 pm.

Mandatory dormitory meeting for residential campers at 9:30 pm.

Each day, all campers will attend three sessions: two sessions at the Michigan Boathouse and one session on Michigan's Athletic Campus.

• Boathouse sessions always include rowing (twice daily, weather permitting), and also includes video sessions and workshops on topics including technique, training, and race strategy.

• Athletic Campus sessions include demonstrations with Michigan Athletic Department Strength Coaches; talks by Michigan Rowing Coaches, Michigan Rowers, and Current and Former Members of U.S. and Canadian National Team Rowers including "Rowing in College" and "Making a National Team"; and ergometer sessions focusing on technique and efficient training.

Michigan Rowing Summer Campers and Coaches simulate a regatta, beginning with team, boat, and coxswain meetings; moving to a combination of pieces on Michigan Rowing's race course; and concluding with boat and team meetings. Families of Michigan Rowing Summer Campers are invited to attend and watch the racing from Michigan's boathouse.

A light lunch will be served for campers, coaches, counselors, trainers, and families at the Michigan Boathouse after the regatta.

Campers are dismissed from camp between 12:00 and 1:00 pm.

Meals: All residential and commuter campers are provided lunch and dinner on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday as well as lunch on Thursday. Residential campers also are provided breakfast each morning from Monday to Thursday.
Parents, guardians, and other family members of Michigan Rowing Campers are invited to join us at the Michigan Boathouse on Thursday for the Michigan Rowing Summer Camp 2009 Regatta and a light lunch following the big event.
