Currently, I am developing a fiber optic platform for monitoring oxygen levels in single cells and single islets of Langerhans in real time. Islets of Langerhans are microorgans found in the pancreas, and are primarily composed of insulin-secreting ß-cells (80%). This sensor is designed for use with a micro-total analysis system (mTAS or lab-on-chip). Ultimately, the chip will allow for simultaneous detection of oxygen consumption, glucose consumption, insulin secretion, and intracellular calcium levels.

Outside of lab, I enjoy playing my clarinet in the Michigan concert band, running, and spending time with friends.
