- 100 Women recruited from social service agencies, including
a battered women's program, and through newspaper ads and public
service announcements.
- Living together for at least one-year and not separated for
more than one-month in the past six months.
- Based on CTS scores and IMS scores divided into three groups:
- Battered (n=39)
- Relationship Distressed, Non-Battered (n=22)
- Not battered, not relationship distressed (n=39)
- Index of Marital Satisfaction (Hudson, 1992)
- wording inclusive of non-marital partners.
- cutting score of 30 used to designate distress.
- Conflict Tactics Scale
- Designated battered if direct physical abuse other than pushing,
grabbing, or restraining had occurred
- Designated battered if multiple incidents of threats and/or
pushing, grabbing or restraining had occurred.
