General Information:

Thank you for your interest in SAAN 2005: Progressions beyond Perceptions. We are eagerly anticipating this third annual conference. We are in the process of choosing speakers, workshops and facilitators that reflect the vision and goals of the conference.

Your attendance will help ensure a diversity in understanding through your various ideas. We hope you come away with a deeper sense of pride, confidence, and respect for the South Asian community.

Small Groups:

As part of the conference, students will be split up into Small Groups of about ten people each, and participate in fun group activities and discussions. Each Small Group will be led by two facilitators who will coordinate the activities and the discussion sessions.

Small Groups and facilitators play an integral role in the success of the conference. Small groups will work to provide a comfortable, safe, and open environment for participants to share their views and challenge one another on issues facing the South Asian community. Small Group programs will actively promote South Asian awareness and unity by celebrating and respecting the diversity within the South Asian community. Finally, Small Groups will help to foster personal growth and develop leadership within participants, and provide an avenue of inspiration and community building that will continue beyond the limits of the conference and into the community at large.

Out of State:

In order to create a diverse conference, we have been targeting students from universities across the country. If you are a student coming from outside the state of Michigan, you can stay at a number of hotels near campus at a reasonable price. You also have the option of staying at the residence of one of the University of Michigan participants for free. Please email saan.marketing@umich.edu for more details.

Thank you for your interest in the SAAN 2005 conference. We look forward to meeting you in January.
