REGENTS COMMUNICATION
January 2003
The
committees of the Senate Assembly identify, advise, and consult on academic
issues of importance to the entire University in conjunction with SACUA and
Senate Assembly. The following is a
list of the Senate Assembly Committees and the issues under consideration this
year.
Academic
Affairs Advisory Committee: Advisory to Provost Courant - finalizing a
document on the principles of teaching, discussing grade inflation, governance
rights of non-tenure track faculty, and revising the process for faculty
evaluation of deans.
Budget
Study Committee: Advisory to SACUA - reviewing the cost of benefits programs
Civil Liberties Board: Advisory to SACUA and Administration - reviewing a proposal for electronic privacy, review of amendments to the Statement of Students Rights and Responsibilities, review of proposal to ban smoking in dorm rooms.
Committee
on the Economic Status of the Faculty:
Advisory to Regents and SACUA - reviewing proposed changes to retiree
benefits and analyzing faculty salary data.
As per request by Regent Maynard the CESF committees on all three
campuses are developing one section of the reports with a similar data format.
Committee
for a Multicultural University:
Advisory to Senior Counselor to the President for the Arts, Diversity,
and Undergraduate Affairs Lester Monts - discussing minority faculty
recruitment and retention.
Communications
Advisory Committee: Advisory
to Vice President Rudgers - review of changes to the U-Record, changes to the
gateway.
Development
Advisory Committee: Advisory to Interim Vice President Wilbanks - meeting
jointly with Government Relations Advisory Committee, review of fund raising
efforts.
Faculty
Perspectives Page Editorial Board:
oversight of faculty editorials for the U-Record.
Financial
Affairs Advisory Committee: Advisory to Interim Vice President Slottow -
discussion of the budget in light of possible reduction in state allocations.
General
Counsel's Advisory Committee: Advisory to Vice President Krislov -
discussion of affirmative action lawsuits, review of rules on freedom of
expression, discussion of changes in residency guidelines.
Government
Relations Advisory Committee: Advisory to Vice President Wilbanks -
discussion of interaction with state legislators and reduction in state
allocation.
Medical
Affairs Advisory Committee: Advisory to Interim EVPMA Greenfield
- comparison of MCare coverage of physical rehabilitation services to the
services offered by the other healthcare providers.
Research
Policies Committee: Advisory to Vice President Ulaby - review of proposal
to change the research track titles, evaluation of the Program for the Education
and Evaluation of Responsible Research and Scholarship (PEERRS)
prototype to help make the navigation through this research training and
certification package easier and more effective.
Rules:
Advisory to SACUA and Senate Assembly - preparing recommendations for Senate
Assembly re-apportionment.
Student
Relations Advisory Committee: Advisory to Vice President Harper - discussion of security in the residence halls, review of proposal to ban smoking
in the residence halls, review of amendments to the Statement of Students Rights
and Responsibilities.
Tenure Committee: Advisory to Senate Assembly and SACUA - preparing a comparison of the Senate Assembly tenure guidelines document with a similar document developed by the Provost's Office.
