Faculty Governance Update to the Regents

Flexible Tenure Clock - At the January 23, 2006 Senate Assembly meeting, Senate Assembly passed a resolution regarding the recommendations in the report of the Provost's Committee to Consider a More Flexible Tenure Probationary Period.

The resolution passed by a margin of 39 votes for, 1 against, and 1 abstention and can be viewed at:  http://www.umich.edu/~sacua/SenAssb/SAFlexTenRes.pdf

Executive Committee Formation and Issues of Involvement - Also at the January 23, 2006 Senate Assembly meeting, Senate Assembly passed a resolution addressing:

      1)  the election method for executive committee membership, and endorsed the democratic
             method of forwarding only the highest vote-getter to the Regents for approval; and
      2)  the areas of involvement of executive committees, which were determined to be:
                   a)   tenure and promotion,
               b)   administrative and other academic appointments including the composition of search
                     committees leading to these appointments as well as to chair professorship
                     nominations, and
               c)   budget (including all necessary information to provide oversight of the budget
                     including merit raises).
