Faculty Governance Update to the Regents

On March 15, Senate Assembly elected Research Professor Michael Combi (Engineering), Associate Professor Bruno Giordani (Medicine) and Professor Semyon Meerkov (Engineering) to serve three-year terms on SACUA beginning May 1.  Continuing members of SACUA after May 1 will be Professor Stanley Berent, Chair (Literature, Science and the Arts, Medicine and Public Health), Associate Professor Silvia Pedraza, Vice Chair (Literature, Science and the Arts), Professor William Ensminger (Medicine), Professor Richard Gull (Flint), Professor John Lehman (Literature, Science and the Arts) and Professor Jens Zorn (Literature, Science and the Arts).

Also on March 15, the University Senate resolved to:

  1. Adopt a system of periodic (every 2-3 years) evaluation by the faculty of administrative officers including the president, provost, deans, and department chairs, with the results to be reported to the Board of Regents and the faculty;
  2. Charge the Senate Assembly to create a standing committee, referred to as the Administration Evaluation Committee (AEC), to be chaired by the Secretary of the University Senate and to be responsible for the following:
    1. Development, in consultation with the Regents, of the final version of Evaluation Questionnaires;
    2. Implementation of the evaluation process as a web-based procedure with the first evaluations to be carried out in the Fall of 2004;
    3. Reporting to the Board of Regents and the faculty the results of the evaluations.

Further discussion of the March 15 Senate action will occur at the April 19 Senate Assembly meeting.
