Faculty Governance Update to the Regents

THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN
REGENTS COMMUNICATION

May 2005

SACUA is currently involved in the process of re-constituting its seventeen advisory and special interest committees as well as assigning SACUA liaisons to each committee.

On April 25, 2005, SACUA passed the following resolution unanimously:

WHEREAS, elected faculty governance received a general distribution draft of SPG 201.65 dated March 29, 2005; and

WHEREAS, faculty have been raising a host of substantial concerns about language, process, and procedures in this draft policy;

THEREFORE, faculty governance has serious reservations about the SPG as it stands, owing to the inadequate involvement of faculty governance in process and deliberation, and that the policy statement requires additional deliberation by elected faculty governance; and

THUS, we recommend that efforts to implement this policy be postponed until the requisite deliberation is undertaken.

SACUA will continue its current discussion with the administration about the proposed implementation and wording of the revised SPG.

SACUA Minutes and Senate Assembly Minutes are available online.
