Faculty Governance Update to the Regents

REGENTS COMMUNICATION

June 2001

The terms of the new SACUA officers and of the newly elected SACUA members began on May 1, 2001.  Mojtaba Navvab (Architecture) will continue in his position as Chair of SACUA and Jack Gobetti (Dentistry) will continue as Vice Chair.  Charlie Koopmann (Medicine) and John Riebesell (U-M Dearborn) began their three-year terms.  The continuing members of SACUA are: Bruce Karnopp (Engineering), Rudi Lindner (LSA), Jon Rush (Art), Peter Ward (Medicine), and SeonAe Yeo (Nursing).

On May 21, SACUA held its annual planning retreat for the 2001-02 academic year.  Items that are of high priority for next year are: 1) intellectual property issues including copyright, conflict of commitment, and other aspects of the technology revolution, 2) issues involving athletics including corporate sponsorship and early registration for student athletes, 3) the Life Sciences Initiative, and 4) the search for the new Provost.
