Faculty Governance Update to the Regents

THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN
REGENTS COMMUNICATION

July  2002

At the annual planning retreat held on June 10 with Interim President B. Joseph White and Interim Provost Paul Courant, SACUA identified the topics it expects faculty governance groups will address in the 2002-03 academic year.  The topics are as follows:

                                    Retirees' Spousal Benefit Coverage

                                    Pharmacy Benefit Oversight

                                    Copyright/Intellectual Property Policy

                                    Grievance Procedures

                                    Intercollegiate Athletics

                                    Faculty Composition

                                    Grade Inflation

                                    Teaching Principles

Many of these topics will be assigned to several Senate Assembly standing committees for review and some will be a part of continual, ongoing discussions during many years ahead.

Finally, because President Designate Mary Sue Coleman will assume the office of the University's presidency on August 1, SACUA will hold a second annual planning retreat on August 19 with President Coleman as a guest.  Regent Chair Laurence Deitch will attend the retreat with President Coleman as will Interim Provost Courant.

SACUA Minutes and Senate Assembly Minutes are available on line.
