Faculty Governance Update to the Regents

July 2003

On June 3, SACUA held its annual planning retreat for the 2003-04 academic year.  SACUA completed committee liaison assignments and identified the topics of childcare, parking, benefits, admissions, and the University budget as major issues for the year ahead.  SACUA met informally with Provost Paul Courant and General Counsel Marvin Krislov as well.

On June 30, SACUA held a second planning retreat.  SACUA discussed potential benefit changes with Chief Human Resources Officer Barbara Butterfield and Provost Courant while SACUA also discussed the Supreme Court rulings in the affirmative action lawsuits with Provost Courant and President Mary Sue Coleman.

This year's recipients of the faculty awards SACUA participates in the selection process for are as follows:

Donald Bord - Jackie Lawson Memorial Faculty Governance Award

Billy J. Evans - Regents' Award for Distinguished Public Service
Scott Kurashige - Regents' Award for Distinguished Public Service

Charles B. Smith - University of Michigan Distinguished Faculty Governance Award

Jean Loop - University Librarian Achievement Award

Susan Hollar - University Librarian Recognition Award

These awards will be presented at the annual faculty awards ceremony on October 1, 2003.
