Faculty Governance Update to the Regents

Recent Activities

On August 28, SACUA met with several faculty members of the Board in Control of Intercollegiate Athletics (BICIA) as well as the Faculty Representative to the Big 10 Conference and the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA). Discussion centered on the BICIA's function, charge, and purview as set forth in the Regents Bylaws.

On October 30, SACUA plans to meet again with the BICIA faculty representatives and Athletic Director Martin to continue discussion of these topics.

Upcoming Events

Regent Candidates' Forum -

On October 23, SACUA and Senate Assembly will sponsor a forum featuring candidates for the University of Michigan Board of Regents. The forum will be held at the Lydia Mendelssohn Theatre from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM with a reception following and is open to the public. The forum is intended to provide an opportunity for candidates to articulate their positions on issues of importance to the University community. In addition to anticipated media coverage, the University's cable television channel will videotape and broadcast the event.

Senate Assembly Speakers -

Senate Assembly has scheduled speakers for each of its monthly meetings this academic year. Speakers scheduled are: President Lee Bollinger (October), Provost Nancy Cantor (November), General Counsel Marvin Krislov (December), Athletic Director Bill Martin (January), CFO Robert Kasdin (February), and EVPMA Gil Omenn (April). The Academic Freedom Lecture will take place at the March Senate Assembly meeting.
