Faculty Governance Update to the Regents

Recent Events           On September 6, Vice President and Secretary of the University Lisa Tedesco was named Interim Provost.  SACUA, on behalf of central faculty governance, wishes Provost Tedesco best success in her new position and appreciates her willingness to assist the University.

                                    On September 11, Dr. Vartan Gregorian, President of the Carnegie Corporation of New York, gave the annual Davis, Markert, Nickerson Academic Freedom Lecture.  Dr. Gregorian's lecture was entitled "Universities in the Twenty-First Century: Perils, Challenges, and Prospects."

Upcoming Items         On September 24, President Lee Bollinger will give his annual state of the University address  to Senate Assembly.

  Finally, SACUA views the following issues as matters of critical importance to faculty in the upcoming year:

 1.      The possibility of changes to faculty control of intercollegiate athletics.

 2.      Proposed prescription drug benefit changes,

 3.      Possible changes to the conflict of commitment policy.
