Faculty Governance Update to the Regents

THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN
REGENTS COMMUNICATION

September 2004

On August 30, 2004, SACUA held its annual retreat at the home of SACUA Vice Chair Silvia Pedrazza.  The focus of the retreat was to identify the issues of high priority for SACUA, Senate Assembly and the Senate Assembly committees.  Relying, in part, on a faculty-wide opinion poll sent out in June, SACUA prioritized central faculty governance issues for the 2004-05 academic year as follows:

  1. Faculty Quality of Life (childcare, intellectual property rights, prescription drug and other health benefits)
  2. Evaluation of Administrators by Faculty
  3. Tenure Track/Non-Tenure Track Faculty
  4. Shared Governance
  5. Importance of Tenure to the Institution
  6. Research Support for Junior Faculty
  7. Grade Alteration/Grade Inflation

SACUA Minutes and Senate Assembly Minutes are available online.
