Recent Activities
In the past month SACUA has met with President Bollinger, Special Assistant to the Provost James Hilton, and Assistant General Counsel Jonathan Alger to discuss intellectual property rights and policies. Discussion focused on issues of ownership, copyright, and conflict of commitment.
Discussion with the President also included matters related to the Board in Control of Intercollegiate Athletics. SACUA expressed its commitment to ensuring that the BICIA function within its current Regental charge and in accordance with Big Ten conference rules.
SACUA also reviewed the report of the privacy sub-committee of the Civil Liberties Board. The report will be sent to Senate Assembly for endorsement.
Upcoming Events
On October 23, Senate Assembly and SACUA will host a forum featuring eight candidates for the University of Michigan Board of Regents. The forum will be broadcast live on UMTV Channel 22, webcast, and videotaped for re-broadcast. Participating candidates are: Wendy Anderson (Republican), Susy Avery (Republican), Laurence Deitch (Democrat), Tim Maull (Libertarian), Rebecca McGowan (Democrat), Marvin Surowitz (Libertarian), Scott Trudeau (Green), and Nick Waun (Reform).
Also on October 23, President Bollinger will deliver his annual address to Senate Assembly. President Bollinger's address will be broadcast live and videotaped as part of a pilot program of videotaping four Senate Assembly meetings this year.
