Faculty Governance Update to the Regents

THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN
REGENTS COMMUNICATION

November 2000

On October 23, SACUA and Senate Assembly hosted a forum featuring candidates for the two open positions on the U-M Board of Regents. Incumbent Democrat candidates Larry Deitch and Rebecca McGowan, Green Party candidate Scott Trudeau, Libertarian candidate Tim Maull, and Reform Party candidate Nick Waun participated although all candidates were invited.

President Bollinger gave his annual address to Senate Assembly at its October meeting where he reviewed University accomplishments of the past year and identified goals for the future. Among the issues the President raised was a conflict of commitment policy for intellectual property.

SACUA will continue to hold meetings with the President, the Provost, executive officers, the Athletic Director, and others to discuss issues concerning intellectual property rights, conflict of commitment policies, faculty control of intercollegiate athletics, affirmative action, academic freedom, as well as corporate sponsorship of research and athletics.

SACUA Minutes and Senate Assembly Minutes are available on line.
