Faculty Governance Update to the Regents

Recent Activities:   October 9-11 - SACUA Chair Charles F. Koopmann, Jr. attended the AAUP National Conference in Indianapolis that focused on intercollegiate athletics reform.  The faculty senates of all Division IA schools have been asked to endorse in general a framework document that can be viewed at http://www.COIA.umd.edu.

                              October 20 - Georgetown University Law Center Professor David Cole was the guest speaker of the University Senate's Thirteenth Annual Davis, Markert, Nickerson Lecture on Academic and Intellectual Freedom.  Professor Cole's lecture was entitled, "Freedom and Terror: September 11th and the 21st Century Challenge."    

 Upcoming Events:  November 17 - Provost Paul N. Courant will give his annual report to Senate Assembly.  It is expected that the athletics reform framework document mentioned above will go to the Assembly for a vote.

                             November 20 - Professor Koopmann will provide the SACUA Chair's annual address to the Regents.
