Sail Away.......
to a whole new world

"It's a game of angles, like outdoor
chess."
Steve Blanchard, four-year member
University Sailing Club member Steve Blanchard
has been a club participant since 1995 and comes
out almost every weekend to sail and to compete -
but mostly to relax. Blanchard, like many other
club members, makes use of the University's
facilities out on Baseline Lake. Along with weekly
competitions between experienced racers, the club
also sponsors weekly training for beginners.
Yet for the seasoned sailors, competition is
stiff. For them, sailing is a lot more than fun in
the sun. Physics, strategy, and basic instinct all
come into play for this group of athletes. One of
the most accomplished club members is the Sailing
National Champion of Romania, Ovidu Adam, who pairs
a lethal boat with his seven year old son,
Cristian. It's no picnic at the beach for these
boys.
