Team Info

What We Are:
The Michigan Sailing Team is a competitive club sport that competes inter-collegiately, in the Midwest Collegiate Sailing Association (MCSA), a region of the Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA). While only a club sport at Michigan, the team competes throughout the Midwest and on both coasts against other club teams and varsity programs.
Where and when we practice:
The team practices at the Michigan Sailing Club on Baseline Lake. We start practicing the first week of school in the fall and as soon as the ice melts in the spring. Practices are held from 4:00 until dark Tuesday and Thursday with optional practices on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. For directions to our sailing site click here.
Joining the Team:
There are a couple ways to join the team.
1.) E-mail Blake Griffin our Recruitment Chair
2.) E-mail the Team and ask for a ride to practice.
3.) Come to our weekly Monday Meetings (email eb@umich.edu for the location).
Our Fleet:
The Michigan Sailing Team owns a fleet of 12 420's: 9 with 1999 hulls and 3 with late 80's and early 90's hulls. We also own an FJ. FJ's and 420's are the standard boats for MCSA regattas. By joining the Michigan Sailing Team each member also becomes a member of the Michigan Sailing Club and gains access to its fleet of 14 JY-15's and 5 2003 Lasers. We are always looking to improve our fleet and we do a large amount of fundraising every year to support our fleet replacement fund.
Team Leadership:
The team is run entirely by its elected executive board and general membership. If you have any questions or comments please contact the executive board or the team captains.
