SAPAC’S SEXISM IN ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN

ALCOHOL = ? Previous Ad | Next Ad

St. Pauli Girl is promoting sexual activity under the influence of alcohol, which is problematic because it promotes sexual activity without consent. The tagline for this ad, “Some girls can’t open up. Some just need a bottle opener” implies that the solution to getting a girl to open up is by intoxicating her, thus making her incapacitated and unable to give consent for sexual activity. Furthermore, the line “you never forget your first girl” implies to what circumstances? The first girl you slept with? The first girl you “opened up” with a bottle of St. Pauli Girl?
