SAPAC’S SEXISM IN ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN

EXCUSE ME, BUT YOU HAVE A LITTLE SOMETHING RIGHT HERE… Previous Ad | Next Ad

This Clinique advertisement uses what looks like a mannequin or a woman with what is supposedly face cream spewed all over her, covering her cheek and her eye. This could be understood in multiple ways. One could interpret it as a harmless ad for face cream or one can see it as a woman that has had ejaculate all over her face. Clearly, the second image interpretation is problematic as it is highly inappropriate and promotes male dominance over the passive woman. Whatever happened to advertising smooth skin and a clear complexion? Who wants an obscene blob of lotion on their face?
