The Student Book
Exchange is a non-profit student run organization that has been operating
since January 1989. SBE strives to create a convenient and efficient method
for U-M students to sell and buy textbooks as well as course packs.
SBE attempts to
help students save money by providing them with a venue to purchase the used
books of other students, rather than purchasing books from the bookstores.
SBE also provides a chance for students to sell their used books for more
money than students could receive by selling them to the bookstores. In the
end, both the buyer and the seller come away winning.
- Bring the books you want to
sell to the Pond Room, Michigan Union on September 8th or 9th
between 10a and 5p.
- Complete a contract form with
name and email.
- List the title of each book
and the price you are selling it for on the contract form.
- Place a label on the spine of
each book you are selling with the contract number, book code, and
price.
- Give your books to a volunteer
to place on the shelves.
- Be sure to keep the yellow
copy of the contract.
- Come back on September 13th to
claim your check and/or unsold book(s). If you encounter an unforeseen
conflict, please contact SBE.
- You must present the yellow
copy of you contract to receive your check and/or books.
- SBE retains 10% of all
sales in order to cover expense costs such as room rental, advertising
and materials.
- Come to the Michigan Union on
September 10th or 11th between 10a and 5p.
- Select the books you want to
buy. We will usually have what you're looking for, especially for large
classes (Math 115, 116, 215, 216, Chem. 124, 210/215, Econ 101, 102, Bio
171, 172, Physics 140, 240, Psych, etc.)
- Bring them to the purchasing
desk. We accept cash, personal checks, and credit cards (Mastercard or
Visa only.).
The Student Book
Exchange operates best when many students attend the book drive. If many
students put their books up for sale, then there is a greater selection for those
students purchasing books. SBE accepts any text books, novels, course packs,
and MCAT, LSAT and other study guides to be put for sale.

1. When bringing books in to sell:
- Have an idea of what price you want to sell it for - Check out the prices at local bookstores.
- Check to see if that book is being used again. If it isn't, it may not sell, or you'll have to make the price really low to make someone want to use an older edition.
|
2. When buying books:
- Know what books you need when you come in. Know the Title, Author, Edition, the cover, or even better, the ISBN.
- Books are organized by subject - know if it's cross-listed with a different subject.
- Check our Miscellaneous section! If the seller does not indicate the subject, and we cannot properly identify where it belongs, we place it in the Miscellaneous Section.
- We only accept same day returns. If you payed with credit card, please bring the card with you.
