The 2007-08 Executive Board would like to thank everyone who contributed to making the past year such a success. We offer our heartfelt congratulations to the members of our outgoing E-Board who have graudated, as well as the members of the larger SCOR family who have matriculated. March on brothers and sisters! We are proud to pass the torch along to the incoming Executive Board. This collection of individuals will extend SCOR's reach in the local community, while continuing to provide the graduate community of color with the tangible and immaterial resources they need to thrive in their respective programs. We remain stedfastly committed to the intellectual, cultural and social advancement of all our communities!
Congratulations to our 2007-08 Vice President Jennifer Yim, who won a Tapestry Award from the University of Michigan in
recognition of her outstanding contribution to mentoring of undergrad psychology students. She has been a vital member of Michigan Association of Psychology of Scholars.

The SCOR Graduate Organization is a network for Rackham graduate and professional students at the University of Michigan.
SCOR is dedicated to the social, cultural, and academic well being of students of color of African, Asian, Latino, and Native American descent. Further, we also include students of other cultures, ethnicities, and international origins.
We promote, support, and sponsor efforts concerning the improvement of quality in our students' academic, professional, and social lives respectful of cultural differences, disabilities, gender, and sexual orientation.
To enhance the campus and community environment for graduate students so as to contribute to their academic growth, social growth, and well-being.
To build an environment in which all persons can network and acquire opportunities for professional development.
To sponsor cultural, educational, social programs, and activities which appeal to graduate students of color

The SCOR community is an alliance of advanced degree students in the arts and sciences, students obtaining professional degrees, local community partners and University leaders. In a word, SCOR is you! This organization is dedicated to utilizing its resources to serve your needs in ways your program cannot. The only way SCOR can be successful in achieving this objective is if you make an investment in it and let your voice be heard. SCOR can only be as strong as the people engaged in it. Given the grit and tenacity graduate students display on a daily basis, our collective strength has the power to be something special.
Whether you’re in your first year or your fifth (or beyond), I hope that during 2007-08 you make significant progress toward obtaining that advanced degree. Graduate school is like a perpetual state of becoming. As minorities we deal with unique challenges and pressures as we strive to become experts, scholars, and activists. It is therefore crucial that we have a space where we can take a break from the demands of becoming and just be. SCOR should serve as the space where we can not only be ourselves, but also affirm the worth of who we are and what we do. Our value to our respective fields and communities doesn’t just kick in after we obtain those degrees and enter the academy or the industry. SCOR exists to remind us of the value we have right now. Don’t for a minute take for granted the value simply in your presence on this campus, especially in the post-Prop 2 climate....(click here to read in entirety)
