Description |
The Definition II module is intended to accompany the text Strategies for Creative Problem Solving by H. Scott Fogler and Steven E. LeBlanc. This module allows students to test their knowledge of planning to solve problems. Individual students will learn about defining problems. Definition II covers subjects including Duncker Diagrams, critical thinking, troubleshooting, Find out Where the Problem Came From, Explore the Problem, and the 5 W's and an H technique.
There is no particular order for students to go through each section; as long as all four components from the main menu are done, the goal of the module will be accomplished. Students should have already completed the Definition I module before beginning this module, as problem definition requires two modules to comprehensively cover the subject. Most sections contain a small exercise at the end, so there is not a stand-alone "interactive" section. The performance number accounts for these exercises. |
Grade Base | 80% completion is necessary to achieve mastery of this module. 70% of the grade is weighted towards the review of the subject while the other 30% rests on the sample exercise and exercises. |
Comments | This module is a great tool for establishing an understanding of how to define a problem, whether it would be engineering related or not. It is recommended that students go through the sections multiple times in order to fully understand the material. |
