If you are not chosen as a mediator, would you still be interested in promoting SMS as an active member?

* S h o r t E s s a y P o r t i o n *

There are no upper or lower length requirements on the answers to these questions, we are much more interested in getting a sense of what you hope to get out of being trained and what you could contribute to SMS than in anything formulaic. So just write until you feel satisfied with your answer.

*

Why would you like to become a mediator? (What do you feel SMS has to offer you?)

What do you feel you have to offer SMS? (Skills; Experience; Commitment; Other)

Anything else you would like us to know?

How did you hear about us?

Please note: Applicants are expected to be able to attend the entire session for all scheduled dates.

Our Expectations:
We offer our regular Student Mediator training to help increase the ability of students to manage and resole conflict, as well as to create a reliable and capable pool of volunteers to work with SMS.

We expect that you'll complete our training with an expanded appreciation of mediation as a form of conflict resolution, as well as the ability to utilize the skills you've gained not only in formal mediation situations, but also in your daily lives.

There are a variety of ways to be involved with Student Mediation Services, from facilitating mediations to conducting residence hall trainings, from working with the intake coordinator to designing promotional materials and doing outreach. *Because we offer this training at no financial cost, we do expect that you'll be interested in committing some additional time to supporting SMS. While you can give as much time as you'd like, we hope for a minimum of 4 hours per semester.
