Charles, Dauphin of France
Crowned
king upon his father’s death in the first act. Fights English through out the
play to try and regain his land, of which he manages to win half, but at the
end he must sign a peace treatise in order to keep the French people from more
massacres by the English. He loses in single combat to Joan la Pucelle, then
tries to woo her to become his lover. Charles is depicted as many of the French
in this play as conceited and boastful.
Historical: Charles VII King of France(1403-1461)
On
inheriting the throne from his father he did try to take back his lands from
the English, but the treaty was actually just a truce, after which the French
succeeded in driving the English out of France.
