NOVEMBER 14, 2018 SCIENCE CAFÉ

As we have been doing for the past seven years, the University of Michigan
Chapter of Sigma Xi provided financial support for support for one of
the UM Museum of Natural History's Science Cafés. This year it
was the November 14, 2018 Science Café on "Cyanobacteria:
Toxic tide or treasure?". The speakers were Vincent Denef
(UM Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology) and Anthony
Vecchiarelli (Department of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental
Biology). We learned that cyanobacteria can be a hazard to health but that
they also absorb CO2 and might affect or even mitigate global warming.
Attendees had lots of questions!
