how to use the ergopod


The following abbreviated instructions are not intended to be complete in every detail. We intend to include an instructional video on this web page next semester. Questions about the Ergopods should be directed to jimbo@umich.edu. The Ergopod is a fully ergonomic and informationally accessible workstation designed primarily for persons with disabilities but may be used by anyone until a request is made by a disabled individual. Please remember that not all disabilities are visible.

Adjust Work Surface Up/Down - Up/Down Arrow buttons are located on the right-hand underside of the work surface. The work surface is designed to accommodate sitting, standing, reclining, and wheelchair users.

Adjust Ergonomic Chair - use levers and knobs provided. Wheelchair users should move the provided chair aside

Adjust Flat Panel Positions - each flat panel is mounted on an adjustable arm. the left flat panel is shared by the Mac and PC. The right flat panel is dedicated to the CCTV. the left flat panel is shared by the Mac and PC and will display whichever machine has been selected by the KVM (Keyboard, Video, Mouse) switch

Adjust Keyboard Tray - turn the large central knob to move up and down, in and out, and to adjust the angle of the tray. Tighten the knob to hold settings.

Attach USB Keyboard of Choice (optional) - Additional USB ports are provided on the right-hand side of the KVM switch

Attach USB Mouse of Choice (optional) - we encourage you to purchase and use amouse of your choice

Attach USB Headset (optional) - headsets are not provided for reasons of sanitation and theft. We encourage you to purchase and use a headset of your choice

Turn on PC - if not on already

Turn on Mac - if not on already Turn on Flat Panels - small button on bottom right of bezel

Turn on CCTV - this a closed circuit television for enlarging and displaying printed material. The red button on the camera is the on/off button. The SVGA box to which the CCTV is connected also provides options.

Select PC or MAC - Press the button on the top of the KVM switch to select

Login to Mac or PC or both
Switch to other machine
(optional) - you may be logged onto both machines

Select an application - the adaptive tech folder on the pc is located in the start menu. the ATCS (Adaptive Technology Computing Site) load set contains 5 accessibility applications - Dragon Naturally Speaking, JAWS, Kurzweil 1000, Kurzweil 3000 and Magic

Be Sure to Log Off of Both Machines Before Departing!
