What Campus Computing Sites are available for use?

General Use Sites:

There are twenty-five Campus Computing Sites available for general use. Twenty-two sites are on Central Campus and three are on North Campus. All Campus Computing Sites are open to University of Michigan students, faculty and staff.

Specialty Sites:

  • Adaptive Technology Computing Site (ATCS)
    The University of Michigan Information Technology Central Services (ITCS), Shapiro Undergraduate Library and the Office of Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) jointly sponsor an Adaptive Technology Computing Site (ATCS) for use by students, faculty and staff. The site is an ergo-assistive work-study environment designed to accommodate the information technology needs of physically, visually, learning, and ergonomically impaired individuals.
  • New Media Center (NMC)
    The New Media Center is a site with resources to help students complete multimedia class projects. The NMC offers high-end multimedia computers with current software, scanners, MIDI stations, and personal studios for digitizing and editing audio and video. The NMC includes a computer classroom that can be reserved for a single session or for an entire semester and also serves as an open lab for walk-in use.
  • Student Organization Resource Center (SORC)
    The SORC has 5 "Creation Stations" available for student organization access. These stations can be used for hands-on print and web graphic design with easy-to-use software. These stations also have Microsoft Word, Excel, and Internet access.
  • Michigan League Cyber Lounge
    The Michigan League Cyber Lounge is a cool place to play your favorite computer games, e.g., Quake III, Unreal Tournament, The Sims, Diablo and others. The Cyber Lounge has 6 e-mail stations and 18 computer stations (PC) for games and internet with comfortable chairs and a cozy atmosphere. Open daily from 7am - 11pm.

    ResComp Sites:

    Residents of University Housing may also have access to Residential Computing Sites (ResComp Sites). Each residence hall has a computing site that is equipped with computers connected to the same campus network, printers, a scanner, and software as in Campus Computing Sites.

    ErgoPods:

    ErgoPod workstations are designed to accommodate sitting and standing users as well as all types of wheelchairs. The ErgoPod was modified to include 2 CPUs (Mac and PC), closed circuit TV system, scanner, and flat panel attached to a monitor arm. A KVM switch is used to switch between the Mac and PC. Campus Computing Sites provides a specialized software loadset which includes JAWS, Magic, Kurzweil 3000, and Dragon Naturally Speaking for the PC and iListen for the Mac. ErgoPods are located in the following sites: ATCS, Angell Hall Lobby, Angell Hall Courtyard, Bursley CLC, D.I.A.D, Duderstadt Center, Law School Lab, Markley ResComp Site, Science Learning Center, South Quad ResComp Site, SPH Library, SSW Library, and the Taubman Library.

    What other computing sites are available for use?

     

  • Furstenberg Student Study Center (FSSC)
    The FSSC is only available to medical students 24 hr/day by card reader. It provides access to 9 Windows and 8 Macintosh workstations. In addition to the computer cluster and express e-mail stations, it includes a mailbox and information area, bulletin boards for student groups, a large informal lounge, and a quiet study area.
  • Computer Aided Engineering Network (CAEN)
    CAEN provides access to several sites on both Central and North campuses for use by individuals with CAEN accounts only. CAEN workstations are also available in the following locations: Duderstadt Center, the Shapiro Undergraduate Library Second Floor Campus Computing Site (Rm 2054), and the Shapiro Undergraduate Library Lower Level Campus Computing Site. [Note: Campus Computing Sites is not responsible for these stations.]
  • Business School
    The Business School student lab is open 120 hours per week. The lab is only available to Business School students (and to other University students enrolled in Business School classes). A lab manager ensures that the lab is running smoothly. Student consultants are available to provide support and answer questions. [Note: Campus Computing Sites is not responsible for this lab.]
  • Law School
    The Law School Student Computer Lab is available to Law students only after 5:30pm. The site provides access to several different workstations and software packages. [Note: Campus Computing Sites is not responsible for this lab.]
