K-grams Programming Council

As a member of the K-grams Programming Council (KPC) you will work closely with your team members and directors to plan, organize and run the many programs associated with K-grams. Through monthly programming council meetings, weekly team meetings, and individual work, members of the KPC are continually engaged in all aspects of K-grams.

The KPC is comprised of a wide-range of roles, and yours may involve internal operations, dealing directly with teachers and pen pals, or acting as a campus representative for K-grams. Effective communication skills, organization, enthusiasm and dedication are crucial qualities for any member for the KPC. Through these roles, you will help ensure long-term benefits of the program and continue to establish positive relationships between college and elementary students.

Swing Kids

As a Swing Kid, you will supervise the pen pal letter collection each month and encourage college pen pal involvement. Each Swing Kid will be assigned to a group of 20-30 pen pals who correspond with one elementary school classroom. Throughout the year you will work with this group of pen pals, ensuring that all letters are turned in on the monthly due date, facilitating interaction among the pen pals, and acting as the pen pals’ main contact with K-grams.

In addition, every month you will create a package in which the letters will be delivered to the elementary classroom and have meetings with your hall team to coordinate and execute classroom projects. Developing a strong relationship with your pen pals, you and your residence hall team will establish an enjoyable community of learning in the residence halls.
