| Executive
Director
The Executive Director serves as the chief officer for all of K-grams
and its programming. S/he represents the organization externally to
all communities and generates initiatives and support for all internal
issues. The Executive Director oversees the entire programming processes
while setting the agenda and scope of weekly functions, as well as long-range
objectives. S/he works on pulling together all parts of the program
in order to shape and promote the mission and goals of K-grams.
Associate Director
The Associate Director works directly with the Executive Director and
other Directors to coordinate all major events and ensure the overall
operation of the program. S/he is responsible for establishing and maintaining
relationships with all univeristy and non-university sponsors. Additionally,
s/he is responsible for ensuring the successful function of the committees
(Publications, Events, and Social Appreciation), and organizaing the
council banquet at the end of the year. Together, the Associate and
Executive Directors make up the Executive Team, which is instrumental
in making all major decisions and ensuring the day-to-day success of
K-grams.
Pen Pal Directors
The Pen Pal Directors oversee all interactions between the college
and elementary school pen pals and ensure that the pen pal program is
running smoothly and efficiently. Working closely with the Hall Heads,
they assure that all letters are collected and delivered to the schools
and help to plan edu-active classroom projects and other elementary
events throughout the year, such as college day, and campus visits.
Working with Hall Heads, Swing Kids, and other Directors, the Pen Pal
Directors work to create positive relationships between and among college
and elementary pen pals and ensure the continued, overall success of
the pen pal letter exchange and project planning.
Hall
Heads
Each Hall Head has a partner with whom they work directly throughout
the entire year. Each Hall Head team facilitates the core letter exchange
program and ensures timely collection and delivery of all pen pal letters
each month, as well as creates and executes edu-active (educational
and interactive) projects in each classroom. They work to build community
between pen pals, Swing Kids, and teachers, and also help pen pals to
become further involved in K-grams. In addition, they help increase
the college pen pal's connection with her/his elementary pen pal, and
with the program as a whole. Hall Heads are the link between the elementary
schools, college pen pals, and the SPC.
Swing
Kids Swing Kids supervise the letter collection
each month and encourage college pen pal involvement for one elementary
school classroom. Swing Kids work together with their Hall Heads and the
other Swing Kids to develop a sense of pride and community within the
hall. The Swing Kids are an integral part of K-grams, as they serve as
the direct link between the college pen pals and the rest of the program.
Swing Kids are the pen pals' source of information about letters, projects,
and other kids programs.
Elementary
Programming Director
The Elementary Programming Director oversees the BookMARK (Mentoring
And Reading with Kids) program and is in charge of maintaining year-long
contact with elementary schools. S/he is in charge of planning and organizing
K-Day. This role entails a great deal of interaction with other people
through email, phone, and meetings, plus the coordination of many volunteers.
S/he is in charge of organizing BookMARK Coordinators and volunteers
for each session, coordinating transportation, responding to questions
and concerns of volunteers, and setting up session dates and times with
teachers at the beginning of each semester.
The Elementary Programming Director is also responsible for seeking
additional ways to become more involved in the elementary schools through
venues such as PTO's and school events throughout the year. S/he also
sets up all preliminary conversations between teachers and Hall Heads
at the beginning of each year, and remains the resource for any questions
in regards to school policy and information.
BookMARK
Coordinator
BookMARK Coordinators supervise and organize a weekly BookMARK session.
Their role includes contacting and coordinating all volunteers for the
weekly session, communicating with their BookMARK teacher to ensure
success of their session, and meeting with the BookMARK Director and
other Coordinators for weekly updates. Through constant communication
and initiative the BookMARK Coordinators ensure the daily success of
each individual session, while at the same time working to strengthen
the BookMARK program as a whole.
The Outreach Directors work internally with K-grams and also externally
with the campus community. These Directors oversee the recruitment of
college student group participation in Kids-Fair. They also work with
their team and the other Directors to develop publicity, advertising,
and logistics of major events such as Welcome Week events, Festifall,
K-grams Gym Night, and Kids-Fair. A major goal of the Outreach Directors
is to create and maintain campus enthusiasm about K-grams.
Outreach
Team
The Outreach Team is an integral part of K-grams. Team
members focus on many tasks throughout the year in order to spread information
about K-grams to the campus community and develop and execute strategic
plans for volunteer recruitment, event logistics, and publicizing K-grams
to university students. In addition, this team helps prepare marketing
materials (e.g. Diag boards, banners, signs, etc.), as well as help
handle logistics to ensure events and activities run smoothly.
Finance-Fundraising Director
The Finance-Fundraising Director would be in charge of
all financial aspects of the organization. This includes collecting
receipts and processing reimbursements for the SPC. S/he works with
the Executive Director to plan the yearly and semester budgets, and
oversee all K-grams related accounts. This role also includes the planning
and execution of various fundraising events throughout the year to secure
funding for all K-grams operations.
Committees
and Chairs
Every member of the SPC is must also be a member of one of the below
committees:
- Publications Committee: Designs
the pen pal newsletters and programs for Kids-Fair, and maintains the
website.
- Events Committee:
Organizes and executes the logistics of major events and fundraisers
throughout the year.
- Social & Appreication
Committee: Plans SPC social events and ensures that
each and every member of K-grams (from pen pals to Directors) are appreciated
for all their hard work and dedication to the program.
